Setting our sights on sustainability – with Greenfleet

Xero vs MYOB

Written by Summer Priest

I’m your go-to Sydney Xero Bookkeeper who cares, swears and surprisingly doesn’t own a scratchy brown suit *scandalous*. I help you achieve freedom to live and up-level your biz. Good news. I always have a secret stash of Maltesers to share, love sipping apple martinis with you and dedicate my days to taking care of your books or looking after my littlest bestie, Bowie.

Ok, so admittedly we haven’t shouted this one from the roof tops, but we’ve finally got our ducks in a row and are FINALLY ready to shout this one – from the desk in my bedroom thanks to lockdown!

Being a sustainable business is something that I am very passionate about. We think sustainably when going about our day to day business. Having recently relocated offices (feels like yesterday but it was now 9 months ago), this meant that we could assess and improve the condition of the office environment. How you ask… with things like air flow, lots of plants, utilising our large doors rather than the air conditioning right down to regularly maintaining equipment to ensure that they are running at optimal levels to improve energy use, addition of new bins to the office to promote recycling and even then, having new systems implemented so that we were more digitally focussed, significantly reducing paper use (proudly 90% paperfree!).

But this wasn’t enough for me… SO we dug a bit deeper. How could we really increase our environmental responsibility. With a bit (A LOT) of research, the running of the numbers, and calculation of the business footprint, we landed. Landed on a decision to offset our carbon footprint through a partner. This is why we’ve partnered with Greenfleet, a leading environmental non-profit organisation and Australia’s most trusted source of biodiverse carbon offsets to take practical climate action.

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS SUMMER, TELL ME MORE.

We are proud of the impact we’re making. By offsetting our emissions with Greenfleet, we are taking practical action against climate change and helping to restore Australia’s forests, recreate crucial habitat for native wildlife and transform degraded land back to its natural state.

Greenfleet plants native biodiverse forests to capture carbon emissions and help fight the impacts of climate change. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted over 9.6 million trees across over 500 forests in Australia and New Zealand. As they grow, Greenfleet forests absorb carbon emissions, improve soil and water quality, and restore habitats for native wildlife, including many endangered species. And we are contributing to this by offsetting the carbon emissions of OH NINE.

“At Greenfleet, we are restoring native forests and growing climate hope thanks to the contributions of our amazing supporters, just like OH NINE”. “Year after year, individuals and organisations help Greenfleet plant more biodiverse native forests to capture carbon emissions and it’s their continuous support which makes a tangible and positive difference to the environment,” – Wayne Wescott, CEO of Greenfleet.

We are proud of the impact we’re making. By offsetting our emissions with Greenfleet, we are taking practical action against climate change and helping to restore Australia’s forests, recreate crucial habitat for native wildlife and transform degraded land back to its natural state.

For us this is just the start. But a step in the right direction for our little biz.
